Step-by-step installation guides and troubleshooting
1. Browser Extension Installation
Chrome / Edge Installation
- Start from the download page and choose the currently verified browser extension source
- Click "Add to Chrome" or "Get" in the top right corner
- Click "Add extension" in the permission confirmation popup
- After installation, a "译" icon will appear in the browser toolbar
- Visit any foreign-language webpage and click the icon to start translating
Firefox Installation
- Start from the download page and choose the currently verified Firefox extension source
- Click "Add to Firefox"
- Confirm the permissions and click "Add"
- The "译" icon in the toolbar confirms successful installation
2. Desktop App Installation
Windows Installation
- Check the download page for the current Windows setup source
- Double-click to run the installer and follow the setup wizard
- If you see a "Windows protected your PC" warning, click "More info" → "Run anyway"
- After installation, launch from the desktop shortcut or Start menu
macOS Installation
- Check the download page for the current macOS setup source
- Open the DMG and drag "Immersive Translate" to the Applications folder
- If you see "Cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified", go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy and click "Open Anyway"
- macOS Ventura and later: go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click "Open Anyway"
3. Troubleshooting
Q: Nothing happens when I click download?
Your browser may be blocking pop-ups. Click the pop-up blocked icon in the address bar and select "Always allow pop-ups from this site", then try again.
Q: Can't find the icon in the toolbar after installation?
Click the puzzle piece icon (Extensions) on the right side of the toolbar, find "Immersive Translate", and click the pin icon. The icon will then appear in the toolbar.
Q: What if I cannot access the Chrome Web Store?
Start from the download page and check the currently available project or release entry. Only use sources you can verify, and avoid third-party extension packages from unknown mirrors.
Q: The translation icon is grayed out?
Some browser built-in pages (settings, new tab page) don't allow extensions to run. Try using it on a regular webpage, or update the extension's site access permissions to "On all sites".
Q: How do I uninstall Immersive Translate?
Right-click the "译" icon in the toolbar and select "Remove from Chrome". Or go to chrome://extensions/, find the extension, and click "Remove".
Q: My antivirus blocked the download?
Some antivirus tools may warn about new or less common packages. Verify the current source on the download page before installing, and avoid packages from unknown mirrors.
