Find answers to common questions about Immersive Translate

How do I install Immersive Translate?

Immersive Translate is available as a browser extension for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Visit the corresponding extension store, search for "Immersive Translate", and click Install. You can also go to our download page for direct links. Windows and Mac desktop apps are also available.

Which browsers are supported?

We currently support Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox. Use the latest browser version when possible, because older releases may handle extensions and permissions differently.

Is Immersive Translate free?

Immersive Translate can be used for core browsing workflows such as web page translation, bilingual reading, and PDF translation. Some engines, accounts, or high-volume usage may have separate limits, so check the current extension settings and engine terms.

How do I switch translation engines?

Click the Immersive Translate icon in your browser toolbar. In the popup panel, you can switch between 10+ translation engines including Google Translate, DeepL, OpenAI, and more. Choose the engine that fits the page you are translating.

How do I use the PDF translation feature?

Open a PDF file in your browser, then click the Immersive Translate icon to start translating. The translation appears in a bilingual side-by-side format while preserving the original layout. You can also drag and drop local PDF files into the browser to translate them.

How does video subtitle translation work?

When you visit video sites like YouTube or Netflix that have subtitles, Immersive Translate automatically detects the captions and provides bilingual translations. Simply click the extension icon on the video page and enable subtitle translation.

Is my data safe? How is my privacy protected?

We take privacy seriously. Translation requests are sent directly to the official API of your chosen translation engine — no third-party servers involved. The extension does not collect or store any personal information or browsing history. All settings are saved locally in your browser.

What languages are supported?

Immersive Translate supports 100+ languages including English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, and many more. The specific language coverage depends on the translation engine you choose.

What if the translation quality is poor?

Different translation engines perform differently depending on the language pair and content type. Try switching engines (e.g., from Google Translate to DeepL) for better results. For technical or specialized content, DeepL or OpenAI engines are recommended.

How do I update Immersive Translate?

Browser extensions installed from the store update automatically. Desktop app users can check for updates within the app, or visit our download page for the latest version. We recommend keeping auto-update enabled to get the latest features and security fixes.
